This property contains several Sunny Brook producers, however, until recently none were very prolific. In the fall of 2002, Basin Oil drilled a well on the East side of the Joppa Rd. This well encountered no floor at 572’ in the Sunny Brook. A tremendous amount of gas was vented and eventually the rig had to be pulled off and the well was rigged for flares. The gas contained enough H2S to be a cause for concern. Gas continued to flare for several weeks. Meanwhile the well was offset 100’ to the North East and another discovery was made in the Stones River. The feature discovered in the first well was not encountered in the second well.

A camera log run in the first well after gas production had subsided and the results were astonishing. It was discovered that the first well had encountered a cave preserved in the Sunny Brook. Even more astonishing was the evidence that the cave was full of oil. After several weeks both wells were put on production at around 150 BOPD.

Other offsets were then drilled to the North East unsuccessfully, while across the Joppa road some of the Sunny Brook producers began to wane indicating some pressure connection with the new reservoir discovery. Early in 2003 a seismic survey was conducted over the property and the results have uncovered part of the strange structural phenomenon in the discovery wells.

Seismic sections above (raw on the left) show the uncollapsed cave centered around shot point 26, while the disturbed bedding in the Stones River indicates some alteration of the sediments

The above drawing shows the alteration of the Stones River through faulting and dolomitization. The faults continue up into the Sunny Brook where the dissolution of the limestone does not result in the collapse of the created cavern. The structure remains in tact. The continuing fault can be seen in the OS # 1 camera log (picture on top) where the well bore walls are very rough and much of the sidewall is missing. The opening to the top of the cavern as seen in the middle camera log picture, shows a dark void at the bottom of the well bore. The oil in the cavern is converting, giving the appearance of movement or horizontal flow. The gas bubbling out of the oil (sequence of camera log pictures) appear to be moving from the bottom left to the top right of the view.
